The idea is to have both worlds of Martin – Maison Martin Margiela and Hermès – next to each other. You have literally the orange world and the white world. Kaat Debo
Martin Margiela changed the course of fashion – but subtly, subversively. Suzy Menkes
On Wednesday April 26th 2017 at 6.30 pm at 10 Corso Como, Kaat Debo, Director and Head Curator of MoMu Fashion Museum Antwerp, will present the book Margiela, the Hermès years, which accompanies the exhibition now on view at the Antwerp Fashion Museum, MoMu, until August 2017.
Fluid is a word we often used – it had to hang off the body, said #MartinMargiela. Known since his first collection 1988 for his avant-garde ideas and cult following, when he joined Hermès for seven years from1997 to 2003, Margiela became the arbiter of all things classic French Chic. Martin is invisible – but it is like oxygen, invisible but vital...He brings a new vision to what we are, said Jean-Louis Dumas.
Published by #Lannoo, the volume has been edited with the cooperation of Martin Margiela himself, and includes unedited photographs and testimonies. Prefaces by Suzy Menkes and Kaat Debo, and essays by Rebecca Arnold, Sarah Mower and Vincent Wierink, the book features a number of interviews including Sandrine and Pierre-Alexis Dumas, Jenny Meirens, and Patrick Scallon among the others.
